Logistics Security Firm, IMG Group, Releases Risk Assessment Blog on Political Instability in Bangladesh

November 30, 2013 by Christopher

Many brand name companies have a significant presence in Bangladesh.

Violent protests in Bangladesh have led to increased political instability. In response, IMG Group has released a preliminary risk assessment on the potential threats to logistics security in the country.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) November 30, 2013

The Incident Management Group, Inc. (IMG) (https://www.theimg.com) a leading logistics security firm has released a preliminary risk assessment on the political instability in Bangladesh. Controversial trials, labor group demands, and political intractability have led to demonstrations and protests in the country throughout 2013. Given the fact that Bangladesh is one of the world’s largest garment exporters, the ongoing political turbulence had caused many firms to become more concerned with logistics security. In response, IMG has released a preliminary risk assessment on the business environment in Bangladesh.

Security Consultant, IMG Assessment on Political Instability in Bangladesh“Many brand name companies have a significant presence in Bangladesh.” explained Christopher Hagon, a managing partner of IMG. “Unfortunately, the country is going through a time of political and economic turbulence. Given the current situation, we thought it appropriate to release a preliminary risk assessment on the business environment in Bangladesh. The ongoing protests have led many firms to become increasingly concerned about the integrity of their logistics security posture. Luckily, I think there are many ways we can help.”

3 Potential Challenges to Logistics Security in Bangladesh

According to IMG’s preliminary risk assessment, there are three drivers of instability in Bangladesh: recent court verdicts, demands for an increased minimum wage, and upcoming elections in January 2014.

  1. Recent Court Verdicts – In 2013, courts in Bangladesh sentenced several notable opposition figures to death for war crimes. Many have questioned the impartiality of these trials, and the harsh sentences have sparked a number of protests.
  2. Labor Group Demands – There has been increasing support for raising the minimum wage of garment workers in Bangladesh. Although the government has recently approved a wage hike, some labor groups feel shortchanged and are determined to keep up pressure on the government.
  3. January 2014 Elections – Bangladesh is facing elections in January 2014, and animosity between the government and the opposition has been heated. The opposition is demanding that the Prime Minister resign before the elections, which the Prime Minister has refused to do. In response, the opposition may boycott the contest. If this occurs, stability in Bangladesh could deteriorate further.

As can be seen, the current political situation in Bangladesh poses many serious challenges to logistics security.
